Key purpose of the job

The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support for the Planning and Capital Development Service. The post holder will ensure targets and deadlines are effectively and accurately met whilst maintaining a high level of customer service.

Essential Criteria

Competent in the use of word for word processing and text production, databases and internet.

A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at Grade A-C, or an NVQ Level 2 in Administration or equivalent.


Where the stated qualifications are not met a minimum of five years’ experience in an admin role.

Desirable Criteria

Qualifications and experience

  • 2 A Level passes or NVQ Level 3 in Administration or equivalent and working knowledge of all Microsoft packages.
  • A minimum of three years’ general clerical/administrative experience in an office environment to include word processing experience.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience, preferably in a construction related environment.


  • A knowledge of the building regulation function and allied legislation.
  • A practical working knowledge of other Microsoft packages.
  • A full current driving licence valid in the UK and access to a car, or have access to a form of transport that enables you to carry out the duties of the post. Applies on to applicants who have a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act.
