Bluestones Staffing are partnering with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council to hire a Data Protection Support & Training Assistant. This is a temporary ongoing role due to a vacant post, and the successful candidate must be available from 2 December 2024.
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Job Type: Temporary ongoing via Agency
Rate of Pay: £17.59 per hour

About the role…
To support the Data Protection Officer in meeting the Council’s data protection obligations, through the design, implementation, and training on efficient policies and processes. Work in partnership with all Units to promote a compliant culture that supports all employees to achieve data protection best practice.
The post holder will be expected to be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs and requirements of the organisation; duties and responsibilities may vary without changing the purpose of the job or level of responsibility.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing and maintaining data protection policies, procedures, and frameworks to ensure compliance with GDPR and other relevant legislation.
- Monitor and track data protection risks, coordinating with relevant teams to mitigate risks and ensure organisational compliance.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate data protection training programs for staff, promoting understanding and adherence to data protection best practices.
- Develop and regularly update training materials, presentations, and resources on data protection topics in line with legislative changes and Council needs.
- Support the preparation, review, and updating of DPIAs and Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs), ensuring they are accurately maintained.
- Assist in managing data protection incidents, including investigations, documentation, and compliance with breach notification protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of data processing activities, consent forms, data sharing agreements, and other documentation as required under data protection laws.
- Support the handling of Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and requests for data rectification or erasure, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and timelines.
- Work closely with IT and security teams to address technical data protection requirements, including data security controls and access management.
- Prepare regular reports on data protection compliance status, including training completion, incident trends, and audit results, for review by senior management.
Essential Criteria:
- Educated to degree level in a relevant field (e.g., Law, Information Management, IT, Business Administration) or equivalent experience in data protection, GDPR compliance, or related fields.
- At least two years of experience in a data protection, privacy, or compliance role, ideally within the public sector or a regulatory environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GDPR, Data Protection Act, and other relevant UK regulations.
- Familiarity with data protection and privacy risks, and best practices for handling data securely.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex compliance issues.
- Excellent communication skills & ability to convey data protection concepts to all levels of staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with data protection software.
