BSNI is working with Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council to recruit a Mayor’s Driver- (Scale 5) – Driving. This role is temporary.

Temporary role.
KEY PURPOSE
- The post holder will be responsible to the Mayor’s Secretary for the provision of a confidential, professional, efficient, effective and courteous chauffeur service to the Mayor/Deputy Mayor and other civic dignitaries.
- The post holder will also be responsible for officiating at Council receptions and functions and providing support to the Mayor’s office as required.
- The Mayoral Driver will provide advice and support to the Mayor / Deputy Mayor on protocol matters.
- The post holder will undertake any other duties relevant to the post reasonably assigned by the Mayor’s Secretary and will act as a key holder.
The services falling within the responsibility of this post are as follows:
KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To be responsible for driving the Mayor/Deputy Mayor and other dignitaries other as required on official engagements using the Mayoral Car or other Council vehicles.
- To undertake any driving duties as required by the Members’ Services Section and be responsible for informal collections and deliveries.
Responsible for vehicles and passengers in accordance with the
Attend Mayors functions, meet and greet Mayors guests, ensure appropriate catering arrangements are in place. - Responsible for the completion of and daily return to Mayors Secretary of all paperwork in relation to driving duties and reporting any matters which may arise during the mayoral duties.
- To provide advice to Mayor, Deputy Mayor on protocol matters, attending to the Mayor, in an accomplished, diplomatic, competent and unobtrusive manner.
- To ensure that cover is in place for driving duties and to train and supervise casual drivers on the duties of the post as appropriate, briefing of drivers on requirements, routes and engagements.
- To cover the Mayor’s office when requested by the Mayors Secretary
- To be responsible for the safe transportation and return of Council’s Mace for civic events outside of Council headquarters.
- Handling, transportation of and deposit of large sums of cash following charity fund raising events in accordance with Council policy & procedures.
- To be responsible for Mayor, Mayoress and Deputy Mayor chains of office when the Mayor/Deputy Mayor have engagements outside the Council offices and to ensure that, after use, the chains of office are locked in the parlour safe or other secure location as required. To liaise with insurance officer as required relevant matters which may arise
- To participate in training as deemed necessary for the responsibilities of the post holder.
Ensure compliance with Council policies and procedures and operate within the highest standards of management and personal behaviour, which reflect the core values and behaviours of the organisation. - Promote equality of opportunity and access in service delivery through the mainstreaming of equality within the Council.
- Ensure the provision of high standards of customer care across all the services provided by the Unit and promote the service effectively and communicate in a way, which enhances and promotes the public image and overall reputation of the Council.
- Develop and enhance working relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders to maximise corporate and community planning outcomes and to generate innovation in service delivery.
Council’s Driver’s Handbook including completion of vehicle log and checks, reporting defects, ensuring vehicle is clean (internally & externally), roadworthy & serviced. Responsible for the supervision of staff assigned including casual drivers and undertaking prior research on Mayors engagements to ensure the completion of tasks.
Note:
The postholder should be aware that the responsibilities and functional areas of the post may be subject to change as a result of organisational change. The Council therefore reserves the right to change the duties of the post by adding to or amending the range of functional responsibilities. The post holder will be required to be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs and requirements of the organisation.
Essential Criteria:
It is essential that applicants have a minimum of:
- 1. 5 GCSEs at Grade A-C and
- Two years employment experience driving experience as a personal chauffeur or an equivalent role (for example as a personal driver in a commercial environment).
- Experience of working in a political environment supporting civic dignitaries and elected members
- Where applicants do not hold the qualifications as outlined in 1 above, they must demonstrate a minimum of 4 years’ experience as above.
