Main purpose of job

To be responsible to the Sports Programme Coordinator for the delivery of an innovative Health and fitness programme for customers at Lagan Valley Leisureplex.

To provide and maintain a quality customer service, including devising and delivering Health and fitness instruction programmes, centre-based coaching classes and the Healthwise, GP Referral and Cardiac Rehab programmes.  To ensure that facilities are clean and well prepared, all relevant equipment is serviceable and properly handled/set up/taken down. All Health and Safety and hygiene standards to be maintained at all times in accordance with the current Quality System and relevant legislation.

The post holder may undertake other duties relevant to the post reasonably assigned by the Sports Programme Coordinator or relevant Duty Manager/Senior Leisure Assistant, including cover for sickness, leave, staff vacancies, wet and dryside operational cover as and when required.

Please note this is a regulated post, as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (SVG) Act 2006 and the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007, both amended (in particular by, respectively, section 64 and Schedule 7, Protection of Freedoms Act 2012).  Also as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Order 2007 (SVGO) and as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (PoFA).

Therefore an AccessNI disclosure will be requested to assist with the decision making process.

Essential Criteria

It is essential that applicants have a minimum of:

  • Five GCSE passes at grade A-C, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Possess a recognised and current coaching qualification in all of the following areas:
  1. Fitness or Gym Instruction Level 2
  2. Kettlebells
  3. Group cycling
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in lifestyle and fitness testing and health promotion within the Leisure Industry.

Where applicants do not hold the qualifications as outlined in the first point (five GCSE passes at grade A-C, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) above, they must demonstrate a minimum of four years’ experience as outlined in the third point (experience in lifestyle and fitness testing and health promotion within the Leisure Industry)

  • The ability to pass the Council’s Point of Entry Swimming Test.

Desirable Criteria

  • Additional Coaching Qualification
  • A recognised lifeguard award
  • A recognised qualification in coaching TRX or Boxercise
  • Experience in the operation of a computerised booking/cash system
  • Competent in the use of Word, Excel, Lotus, Notes/Outlook
