BSNI is working with the council to recruit and experienced community centre assistant supervisor, we have a number of opportunities around the Belfast area.

Location:  Belfast

Durations:  Temporary

Hours:  Part-time and full-time available

Hourly Rate:  £12.18 plus

 

Main purpose of job

To be responsible to the Community Centre Supervisor to ensure supervision of access to the centre, to respond to requests from the public, to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and the good appearance of the building and its environs.

To assist in ensuring the accurate and timely production of all necessary documentation reports and official returns.

To act as a key holder.

Summary of responsibilities and personal duties

 

1.           To respond appropriately to routine enquiries from community groups or the general public whether by telephone, electronic means or in person.

 

2.           To assist with the completion of booking forms, issue copies of the “Conditions of Hire” and maintain a desk diary of booking requests and approvals.  This includes the special procedures associated with one-off bookings, or events involving the consumption of alcohol.

 

3.           To issue receipts for booking money and collect and keep secure all cash received (including telephone).  To prepare and lodge monies as required and comply with section policy on handling money.

 

4.           To assist with the completion and submission of all necessary documentation, reports and official returns, as required, adhering to stated deadlines where appropriate in accordance with section and council policy.

 

5.           To set out equipment and furniture as required for booking and to take all reasonable steps to ensure that equipment and furniture is properly cared for and the risk of damage or theft is minimised.

 

6.           To act as key holder responsible for opening and closing of the centre, controlling access to all parts of the building and responding to “call-outs”, as and when available.

 

7.           To make all Health and Safety checks including Fire Log Procedures and take appropriate action.

 

8.           To assist with the receipt, safe storage and economical use of all supplies and materials.  To compile and help maintain inventories in accordance with council policy and procedures.

 

9.           To use appropriate emergency contact procedures during or outside office hours.

 

10.        To report major repairs or defects on the premises directly to the appropriate section with follow up requisitions and orders as required.

 

11.        To assist with carrying out minor repairs to preserve the maintenance and appearance of the premises, furniture and equipment.

 

12.        To help set up and test new items of equipment and furniture to ensure proper operation, preserving associated literature.

 

13.        To assist with the removal of graffiti and debris from around the outside of the premises to preserve the appearance of the building and maintain a tidy site.

 

14.        To use all industrial and powered cleaning equipment and chemicals in accordance with manufacturers’ guidelines and health and safety regulations.

Essential criteria

 

Experience

 

Applicants must, as at the closing date for receipt of application forms, be able to demonstrate on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, relevant experience of:

a)     the operation of facilities, that is, health and safety procedures, cleaning and maintenance and associated administrative duties; and

b)     dealing with members of the public.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, evidence of each of the following which may be tested at interview:

The ability to demonstrate a sound awareness of customer care procedures, and respond appropriately to the needs of internal and external customers.

The ability to make decisions about individual working.

 

Health and Safety awareness skills

An understanding of the health and safety responsibilities of the post to ensure the safety of other council employees and members of the public.

 

15.        To ensure that all areas of the centre are kept in a clean and hygienic condition, including removal of litter, preparation, cleaning and dusting of all floor and wall surfaces, equipment and furniture, with particular attention to hygienic requirements in kitchen and toilet areas.

16.        To assist the supervisors in compiling and maintaining appropriate cleaning rotas and administration records.
