BSNI have a fantastic opportunity for Belfast Council for a Painter.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm

Rate of pay: £13.93 phr

Main purpose of job

To be responsible to the Area Contract Manager (Building) or other appropriate officer to undertake work within the Building Maintenance Operation either individually or as part of a team.

Summary of responsibilities and personal duties

1. Carry out as directed the full range of work associated with their particular trade.

Specific duties:

· Maintaining, storing and using all types of painter’s tools, e.g. ladders, trestles, staging, brushes, knives and trays etc.

· Erecting and dismantling scaffolding which involves working at heights.

· Applying painter’s hygiene in the use of hands, overalls, brushes and rollers, etc.

· Preparing different types of surfaces both externally and economically, e.g. undercoat, gloss, emulsion etc. Hanging different types of wallpaper and wallcoverings, including ‘Muraspec’ etc.

· Ensuring the proper and safe use and storage of thinners and diluents.

· Treating in the correct manner, cracking, flaking, blistering etc of surfaces.

· Applying varnishes, stains and glazes etc.

· Ensuring that regulations are adhered to.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants must, as at the closing date for receipt of application forms:

· have an NVQ Level II in Painting and Decorating or equivalent qualification; and

· have a full, current driving licence which enables them to drive in Northern Ireland, or, have access to a form of transport which enables them to carry out the duties of the post in full[1];

Applicants must also, as at the closing date for receipt of application forms, be able to demonstrate on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, at least one year’s relevant experience in each of the following threeareas:

i. preparing surfaces prior to carrying out painting or

ii. erecting and dismantling relevant equipment, ensuring that health and safety standards are adhered to; and

iii. decorating painting and decorating in a building and maintenance environment;
