Bluestones Staffing is working with Belfast City Council to recruit a dedicated and proactive Cemeteries Administrator.

Hours: Full-time, 37-39.5 hours (Rota listed below job ad)
Job Type: Temporary ongoing via Agency
Rate of Pay: £12.80 per hour
Start Date: Monday 30th September (TBC)

The postholder will be responsible for providing administrative and clerical support across multiple cemetery sites, ensuring high standards of service and sensitivity in dealings with the public. This role involves managing bereavement-related enquiries, supporting funeral arrangements, and maintaining accurate records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the administration of the council’s cemeteries and crematorium, including booking, recording, and processing documentation for burials and cremations.
  • Respond sensitively to enquiries and complaints from the public and bereavement industry representatives.
  • Provide front-line customer support, including guidance on the selection and identification of graves.
  • Liaise with funeral directors regarding funeral arrangements and cemetery administration.
  • Direct funeral corteges and visitors to appropriate gravesites and facilities.
  • Accept payments for bereavement services, including memorialisation and burial fees.
  • Maintain accurate records, both manually and through computer-based systems.
  • Liaise with site staff regarding grave identification and interment logistics.
  • Perform general administrative duties, such as word processing and preparing reports.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to junior staff as required.

Essential Criteria:

  • At least one year’s experience working in a bereavement-related environment, including customer service, cash handling, and administrative duties.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office or equivalent software packages.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal tactfully and sympathetically with the public.
  • Knowledge of customer care procedures and basic health and safety responsibilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • Two years’ relevant experience in bereavement services or similar environments.
  • Five GCSEs (Grades A-C), including English, or equivalent qualifications.

Rota:

The below 4 week rota below will be applicable Cemeteries Administrator- 1/2 hr paid lunch week 1 & 3 and week 2 & 4 1/2hr toil paid for lunchtime cover (2.5hrs) – w/e enhancement

Week 1 & 3: Monday & Tuesday – 8:30am-5pm, Thursday & Friday – 8:30am-4:30pm, Saturday 8:30am-12:30pm. 1/2 paid lunch break. Wednesday & Saturday off. (Total: 37 hours)

Week 2 & 4: Monday – Thursday 8:30am-4:30pm, Friday 8:30am-4pm. 1/2hr TOIL paid for lunchtime cover, 2.5 hours. Weekends off. (Total: 39.5 hours)
