Painter (Council)

Bluestones Staffing is working with Belfast City Council to recruit a skilled and detail-oriented Painter for temporary sickness cover until approx. January 2025.

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Job Type: Temporary ongoing via Agency
Rate of Pay: £13.93 per hour
Start Date: To be confirmed

The Painter will report to the Area Contract Manager (Building) or another appropriate officer. This role involves undertaking a wide range of painting and decorating tasks across council properties, ensuring high-quality service delivery and compliance with health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Storing, maintaining, and using painter’s tools (e.g., ladders, trestles, brushes).
• Erecting and dismantling scaffolding, working at heights as required.
• Preparing various surfaces for painting (undercoat, gloss, emulsion).
• Hanging wallpaper and wall coverings, including specialty items like ‘Muraspec.’
• Safely using and storing thinners and diluents.
• Applying varnishes, stains, and glazes, while adhering to health and safety regulations.
• Perform reactive and planned maintenance work in council properties.
• Follow painting schedules and specifications when necessary.
• Identify, order, and collect materials required for each task.
• Participate in performance management and billing procedures as implemented by the Section.
• Assist in coaching and training new employees, contractors, and apprentices.
• Drive council vehicles when required and ensure adherence to all driving and safety protocols.
• Maintain compliance with Health & Safety at Work Legislation, CDM regulations, and Belfast City Council policies.

Essential Criteria:

• Qualifications: NVQ Level II in Painting and Decorating or equivalent qualification.
• Experience: At least one year’s relevant experience in:
  – Surface preparation for painting.
  – Erecting and dismantling equipment with a focus on health and safety.
  – Painting and decorating in a building and maintenance environment.
• Full current driving licence valid in Northern Ireland or access to suitable transport.
