Bluestones Staffing is recruiting a Pest Operative for Belfast City Council, working within the City and Neighbourhood Services department. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the council’s pest control services by carrying out various pest management and sewer baiting activities.
Job Title: Pest Operative
Job Type: Temporary ongoing via Agency
Location: Dargan Crescent, Belfast
Hourly Rate: £12.38 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform sewer baiting and drain testing activities, including baiting of manholes, gullies, riverbanks, and open spaces.
- Assist Pest Control Officers and other City Services staff with routine duties and tasks, including sewer and smoke testing.
- Handle acute and other poisons safely while adhering to all pest control regulations and procedures.
- Drive the sewer van and ensure proper upkeep and cleaning of the vehicle, as well as safe transport of materials and equipment.
- Liaise with external organisations like Northern Ireland Water when necessary, and maintain thorough written and electronic records of all work carried out.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, conduct risk assessments, and work safely in confined spaces and at heights.
- Assist in training programs for newly appointed staff and other council departments, promoting the highest standards of service and safeguarding.
Essential Criteria:
- A full, current driving license valid in Northern Ireland or access to transport that enables the job duties to be carried out.
- A Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Rodenticides or an equivalent qualification.
- At least one year of experience in Managing health and safety risks, particularly handling hazardous substances.
- Interacting with members of the public in a professional manner.
Desirable Criteria (for short-listing):
Belfast City Council may shortlist candidates who can demonstrate at least two years of experience in managing health and safety risks and customer-facing roles.
