Bluestones Staffing is partnering with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council to hire a Swimming Teacher on a temporary casual/adhoc basis within the Leisure and Community Services Department.

Hours: Casual, to cover Holidays/Sickness when required
Job Type: Temporary ongoing via Agency until October 2025
Rate of Pay: £14.17 per hour
Location: Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, Lisburn, Co. Antrim

Key Purpose of the Job:

The Swimming Teacher will be responsible for designing, delivering, and developing an innovative swimming programme at Lagan Valley Leisureplex. The role promotes physical well-being and improved health through a range of swimming lessons and specialist classes. The post holder will oversee the schools’ swimming programme and the Council’s swimming lessons, ensuring structured, engaging activities for participants.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach, coach, and organize innovative swimming programmes.
  • Design and implement special events, such as holiday swim camps / school swimming programmes.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including lesson organization, risk assessments, and the preparation of reports for the Sports Programme Coordinator.
  • Monitor and track the progress of swimming lessons, updating records / preparing lesson plans.
  • Handle, set up, and maintain equipment safely, ensuring it is correctly stored.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety for both customers and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult legislation.
  • Uphold cleanliness and maintenance standards, reporting any defects or hazards to management.
  • Ensure compliance with governing body legislation (RLSS UK, ASA).
  • Provide excellent customer care, enhancing the public image and reputation of the Council.

Essential Criteria:

  • Recognized full Swimming Teachers Certificate (Level 2).
  • At least two years’ experience in teaching swimming.
  • Experience in teaching within a local authority swimming programme.
  • A relevant qualification for teaching swimming to disabled persons.
  • National Aquatic Rescue Standard (NARS) or National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).
  • Enhanced Access NI check required, at cost of candidate.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Practical working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Experience with a computerized booking system.
