Job Purpose:
As Depot Manager, you’ll lead the day-to-day running of the depot, ensuring it operates smoothly, safely, and profitably. You’ll manage and support your team — including the Floor Supervisor, Office Manager and Tyre Technicians — while also working hands-on in the workshop when needed. You’ll maintain high customer service standards, manage stock and costs, and drive continuous improvement across the depot.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Depot Management
· Oversee all aspects of depot performance, ensuring efficiency and profitability.
· Manage daily sales, costs, stock levels, and cash handling.
· Maintain accurate stock control.
· Open and close the depot, ensuring security of premises, stock, and cash.
· Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment across all areas.
· Continuously review and improve depot processes and performance.
· Organise cover for truck and breakdowns.
Team Management
· Lead and support the Floor Supervisor, Office Manager and Tyre Technicians.
· Ensure the team are well-trained, motivated, and meeting performance standards.
· Manage attendance, and holidays to maintain full operational cover.
· Encourage teamwork, communication, and a positive work culture.
Customer Service
· Deliver and promote excellent customer service standards.
· Handle customer enquiries, quotations, and complaints professionally.
· Support sales growth by promoting additional services such as wheel alignment and balancing.
Financial & Administration
· Monitor depot sales, expenditure, and profit margins in line with the business model presented by Senior Management.
· Oversee the completion and checking of invoices, cash sales, and account reconciliations daily.
· Assist in forecasting, budgeting, and reporting on depot performance.
· Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
· For any equipment purchase exceeding £100, prior approval must be obtained from the General Manager or Managing Director.
· A minimum of three quotes must be provided for review and approval before the purchase is made.
Health, Safety & Compliance
· Maintain a safe working environment and ensure team compliance with Health & Safety rules.
· Report and address hazards, accidents, or unsafe practices promptly.
· Ensure all company vehicles and equipment are checked and maintained properly and organise any necessary repairs.
· Ensure weekly vehicle checks have been completed and returned by Tuesday each week.
· Ensure all staff members adhere to the non-smoking/vaping policy and personal use of mobile phones policy.
Tyre Fitting Duties
· Carry out tyre inspections, repairs, replacements, and wheel balancing on a range of vehicles.
· Advise customers on tyre condition, wear, and suitable replacements.
· Perform wheel alignments (2- and 4-wheel) to company standards.
· Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high quality.
· Support and train team members on tyre fitting and related services.
General
· Represent the company professionally with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
· Safeguard company property and confidential information.
· Undertake any other reasonable duties as required to support depot operations.
