Main purpose of job

  • To be responsible to the appropriate line manager for assisting in the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and effective service, including the application of basic Information Technology skills.
  • To perform assigned duties and tasks, either as part of a team or individually as required, in accordance with specified time and quality standards including the prioritisation of own workload when necessary.
  • To represent the appropriate line manager in routine day to day matters as necessary within the post holder’s sphere of responsibility.
  • To further the aims and objectives of the Alleygating project.
  • To act in accordance with the council’s customer care principles.

Essential criteria
Applicants must, as at the closing date for receipt of application forms and throughout the selection process, be current Belfast City Council employees.

Qualifications and experience
Applicants must, as at the closing date for receipt of application forms:

  • have a full, current driving licence which enables them to drive in Northern Ireland, or have access to a form of transport which enables them to carry out the duties of the post in full1; and
  • be able to demonstrate on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, at least one year’s relevant experience, gained in the workplace, of:
    a) dealing with members of the public as part of their daily duties in a face-to-face environment, including dealing with confrontational situations;
    b) compiling and analysing service information; and
    c) undertaking marketing and promotional activities and events.

Short listing criteria

In addition to the above driving licence and experience, Belfast City Council reserves the right to shortlist only those applicants who:

  • in the first instance, can demonstrate on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have, as at the closing date for receipt of application forms, at least two years’ relevant experience as outlined in area (a) above; and
  • in the second instance, have at least five GCSEs (grades A-C) including English, or equivalent qualifications.
