Main purpose of job
To be responsible through the Building Cleaning Supervisor to the Building Cleaning Officer and other relevant officers for the provision of general cleaning, labouring and portering duties at various council locations as directed.
To attend council functions as required.
Summary of responsibilities and personal duties
To carry out general cleaning duties in all areas of the City Hall, Cecil Ward Building and other Belfast City Council locations as directed, including the use of all cleaning, buffing, polishing, vacuuming and other necessary machinery and equipment supplied.
To transport, erect and dismantle tables, chairs, mobile staging and a range of ancillary equipment in all the main function rooms within the City Hall and at all other locations as specified, in a timely and efficient manner.
To assist as required in liaising with event organisers to ensure that all layout, legal, health and safety, evacuation, entrance and egress requirements are fulfilled with regard to the setting up of functions in all of the council�s function rooms and other areas.
To provide a full portering service to the council, including the collection and disposal of recyclable and other refuse and the collection and delivery of mail and other items between the main civic buildings of the council.
To attend as required at ceremonial and other functions and to assist as required with bar duties and hospitality and the setting-up and dismantling of equipment.
To replenish all towels, toilet rolls, soap dispensers and similar items.
To assist the handyperson as required, including the setting up and dismantling of audio-visual and other equipment.
To provide deep-cleaning services and assist with office moves, re-locations etc and the movement of office furniture etc as required.
To receive daily deliveries at the back gate of the City Hall and transport them to the appropriate recipients as required.
To assist as necessary in the cleaning of public conveniences and other facilities outside the City Hall, to open/close and secure these premises where required and to report any incidents or damage to the Building Cleaning Officer or Supervisor in a timely manner.
To assist as required in the induction and training of new recruits, agency and other temporary workers.
To undergo all training deemed necessary to effectively carry out all of the above, as required.
To carry out any other relevant duties as directed by the Buildings Projects Manager(s).
To participate in all induction and in-service training provided by Belfast City Council and in the induction and support of all newly appointed staff and other human resource management policies and procedures, as appropriate, including, absence management, disciplinary and grievance procedure.
To act in accordance with the council and departmental policies and procedures including customer care, equal opportunities, health and safety, safeguarding and any pertinent legislation.
To undertake the duties in such a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of the council.
To undertake such other relevant duties as may from time to time be required.

Essential criteria
Experience
Applicants must, as at the closing date for receipt of applications forms, be able to demonstrate on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, at least one years relevant experience in at least two of the following three areas:
carrying out deep cleaning duties which must include experience of using cleaning machinery and making sure that all machinery and chemicals are safely used in accordance with health and safety regulations;
setting up and breakdown of furniture and equipment for a range of functions; and, or
portering duties across a range of sites.
